Behind every great writer is a great partner ... and someone madly promoting his books. Steve's wife, Damaris Carrero, recently received some recognition for the wonderfully inventive hats, bags and other materials that bear the themes of the Precinct Puerto Rico series. Mystery Scene magazine, the main publication of the mystery writer community, gave Damaris's work a thumbs up:

"What with all the new promotional give aways from authors and publishers, our mailbag runneth over here at Mystery Scene. Here are some of our favorites: Steven Torres has fulfilled the first aim of promotion - standing out from the crowd - with the help of his wife Damaris Carrero. She fashioned the hat you see Steven wearing at the right [left] and also created an attractive zippered bag with the title of Steven's latest, Burning Precinct Puerto Rico (St. Martin's, May 2004) embroidered on the front. Safely stowed inside are all sorts of promotional materials."
